Fabulous Fall Centerpieces

This Thanksgiving spruce up your table with this fun and festive centerpieces.

Message in a Tree
Show your guests that you're thankful for them this fall with a tabletop tree full of leaves and personal messages. Arrange twigs vertically in an urn and anchor the arrangement with decorative rocks. Write short messages on decorative paper, punch a hole in one corner of each piece, and tie the notes to the twigs using skinny ribbon. Fill in spaces with colorful faux leaves, found at a crafts store. For added fun, sprinkle blank cards and writing utensils on the table for guests to write their own messages to add to the tree.

A-Maize-ing Centerpiece
Nestle colorful ears of corn on a bed of wheat for a feast of earthy color and texture that's distinctly fall. Fit a shallow bowl with dry floral foam, leaving the foam an inch or two taller than the bowl. Insert wheat stalks into the foam, parallel to the table top. Partially remove the husks from several ears of Indian corn and arrange them on top of the wheat.

Autumn Candles Centerpiece
Garnish plain pillar candles with leaves for an elegant and understated display. Choose a few favorite leaves from your lawn. Determine placement of leaves on each candle. Coat the backs of the leaves with decoupage medium and smooth in place on the outside of the candle. If necessary, use tacky white crafts glue to hold the stems down. Cover the sides of the candle and the leaves with one or more coats of decoupage medium.

Harvest of Flowers
For a pretty and super-quick centerpiece, create this beautiful autumn centerpiece with a small pumpkin, a grocery store bouquet, and some hot glue. Choose a bouquet of mums in harvest colors, and cut each flower at the top of its stem, just below each flower head. Attach each blossom to an uncut pumpkin with a little hot glue. Sprinkle colorful leaves and small gourds around the pumpkins for added interest. This is a great last-minute project.

Floral Pumpkin
Both whimsical and elegant, this floral version of a pumpkin was created by carving a block of soaked florist's foam into a sphere and placing it on a cake stand. Orange mums were cut short (2 to 3 inches), then inserted into the wet foam to cover. A faux stem (a woody branch), a few leaves, and a twine of berries finished off the arrangement.

Mini Pumpkin Candleholders
Miniature pumpkins are available in either orange or white. Break off the stem, then insert a small round metal cookie cutter, pounding it down into the pumpkin with a mallet. Carve out the plug by cutting around it with a paring knife. Insert a votive or tall taper candle, wedging these into place if necessary and securing with museum wax.
